How to Start OnlyFans in the UK
The UK is OnlyFans' home market: the platform is registered in London, banks treat the payouts as routine, and the paying audience is right on your doorstep. The only "buts" are HMRC discipline and privacy in an English-speaking market.
Is it legal?
Completely. Creating 18+ content as an adult is legal in the UK, and OnlyFans itself is a British company. The income is taxable though, and HMRC receives data directly from the platforms — working off the books here is the worst idea available.
Step 1. Verification
Passport, BRP or driver's licence + a selfie. The name — exactly as in the document. The basic steps are in the guide "What Is OnlyFans & How to Start".
Step 2. Tax status
- Your first £1,000 of income per tax year is covered by the trading allowance — no need to declare it;
- Above that, you register as a sole trader (self-employed) on gov.uk and file a Self Assessment once a year;
- The survival rule: a separate account for payouts, and ~25–30% of every payout goes straight into a separate "tax" account.
Step 3. Payouts
Direct bank transfer to a UK account, the minimum is $20, money lands in 1–3 business days — faster than in most countries. More in our guide to withdrawing money.
Privacy in the UK
- Geo-blocking the UK is mandatory: the platform's core audience is English-speaking, and without the block it's precisely your neighbours who'll see the page;
- Stage name, separate work accounts, zero overlap with LinkedIn and professional socials;
- The full protocol is in the guide to working anonymously.
Traffic from the UK
All six channels work without adaptation: Reddit (huge UK/US subs), TikTok, Instagram, Threads, X, streaming. Your language is already the "right" one, and US prime time is your evening. The one nuance: competition on the English-speaking market is higher, so packaging and niche decide more than anywhere else — start with the profile checklist.
Typical mistakes when starting in the UK
- Ignoring Self Assessment — HMRC sees platform payouts and sends its letters first;
- Working without a geo-block in the world's most English-speaking market;
- Starting "like everyone else" with no niche — in the UK that's the road to your first hundred dollars and a ceiling.
